There are various options for those wanting to reshape their pond:
- remove the flexible pond liner from a small garden pond and dig a bigger hole. Reline your pond with a bigger sheet of protective underlay and liner
- build a second pond next to the existing one. The strip of land between the two ponds can be designed to become a bridge-like feature that appears to cross over a larger pond
- increase the size of a natural pond by building a bog garden around its edges and planting blog plants in such away that the pond and bog appear as a single feature
- remove the edging stones around a square pond and replace with planting beds to take the stack harshness by blurring the line between land and water
- Remove the edging stones from one side of your pond and create a beach effect with sand, shingle and dry planting
- Change the aquatic plants to create a different focal point
- Add an octagonal shaped deck over the edge of your pond. This can also be done to make a large pond look smaller.
Whatever changes you decide to implement to reshape your garden pond, it is advisable to first study your pond and surrounding garden first. Take note of how the pond is built and the quality of all its features before making a list of improvements. Perhaps changing a small but well built pond lined with a flexible pond liners is not such a good idea, but rather expand its look but adding a waterfall using your pond as a reservoir for the water.
