Preformed Pond Liners

Preformed pond liners are a popular choice for a pond when time and space are limited. Preformed pond liners are durable, quick and easy to install. They are also best suited for small ponds and can be for above or below the ground ponds.

To install preformed pond liners in the ground some careful preparation needs to be done. The first step is to mark out the exact shape of the pond on the ground. To do this accurately and get the correct dimensions of your preformed pond marked out, place it upside down on the ground and trace around it. Then you need to dig out the ground into which your preformed pond liner will be placed. The depth of the hole needs to be slightly (about an inch) greater than that of the preformed pond liners. The reason for this is that once installed and compacting the ground around your pond, you want to limit the amount of sand falling into your pond. The diameter of the hole needs to match that of your preformed pond liner. If, the hole is wider, once your pond is installed fill the gap with sand to support your pond liner. After you have filled your pond with water, compact the sand in around the diameter of your pond.

Use a carpenter’s spirit level to check that the bottom of the hole is level. To make the levelling process easier it is advisable to add a layer of compacted sand to the bottom of the hole.  Once your preformed pond is placed into the ground, again use the spirit level to check that your pond is level with the ground. If not, remove pond liner and level the bottom of the hole accordingly.

After filling your pond with water, wait at least a day before landscaping the edges around your pond.

Finally, sit back and enjoy your wonderful creation!
